1.听听听听听 Background

a.听听听听听 This Scholarship was established in 2016 to encourage and support Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake nursing education at The University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School).

b.听听听听听 This Scholarship has been donated by the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation.

2.听听听听听 Eligibility

1. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) at the Sydney Nursing School.

b.听听听听听 Applicants must enrol in a minimum of 24 credit points in their first semester of the degree.

c.听听听听听 Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as per University of Sydney听Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy 2015.

3.听听听听听 Selection Criteria

a.听听听听听 The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 I.听听听听听听听听听 academic merit, and

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 II.听听听听听听听听听 a personal statement.

b.听听听听听 Shortlisted applicants may need to attend an interview (face to face or online) with the selection committee.

c.听听听听听 The selection committee will consist of the:

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 I.听听听听听听听听听 Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Nursing School or their nominated delegate,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 II.听听听听听听听听听 At least one representative of the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 III.听听听听听听听听听 Director Academic Education,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 IV.听听听听听听听听听 Pre-Registration Program Director,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 V.听听听听听听听听听 School Manager,

听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 VI.听 听 听 听 听 Advisor, First Nations Strategy

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 VII.听 听 听 听 听Director of Academic Career Development, and

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 VIII.听 听 听 听 听 Administration Officer.

4.听听听听听 Value

a.听听听听听 The total value of the scholarship for a recipients enrolled full-time will be $87,500. This will be split into the following benefits:

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 I.听听听听听听听听听 a one-off payment of $500 in the first semester of their award, and

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 II.听听听听听听听听听 a semester payment of $14,500 for 6 semesters will be allocated as follows:

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 i.听听听听听听听听听 100% coverage of tuition fees after relevant census dates as a credit to the student鈥檚 tuition fee liability account for 6 semesters.

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 ii.听听听听听听听听听 The remaining balance will be paid in cash after census date of each semester.

b.听听听听听 All scholarship payments will be paid after the relevant census date of each semester.

c.听听听听听 Deferral and suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Director Academic Education.

d.听听听听听 The scholarship is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

e.听听听听听 The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f.听听听听听听 No other amount is payable.

5.听听听听听 Ongoing eligibility

a.听听听听听 To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must:

听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听I.听听听听听听听听听 maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester, and

听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 II.听听听听听听听听听 remain enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit points each semester in their eligible course.

b.听听听听听 Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6.听听听听听 Termination

a.听听听听听 The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

听 听 听 听 I.听听听听听听听听听 withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

听 听 听 听 II.听听听听听听听听听 enrols in less than 24 credit points in a semester,

听 听 听 听 III.听听听听听听听听听 undertakes a leave of absence without prior approval from the Director Academic Education,

听 听 听 听IV.听听听听听听听听听 does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

听 听 听 听 V.听听听听听听听听听 is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

听 听 听 听VI.听听听听听听听听听 accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for a full-time recipient or $4,000 per annum or more for a part-time recipient, for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or

听 听 听 听 VII.听听听听听听听听听 does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b.听听听听听 Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.听听

c.听听听听听 Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7.听听听听听 Other Requirements

a.听听听听听 Recipients of the scholarship are required to:

听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 I.听听听听听听听听听 attend annual School Scholarship and prize events during the tenure of their scholarship,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 II.听听听听听听听听听 contribute to communications and events to update the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation on their progress,

听听听听听听听听听听听听听 III.听听听听听听听听听 actively participate in the Susan Wakil Scholars Academy, and

听听听听听听听听听听听听听 IV.听听听听听听听听听 meet with the Director Academic Education or the designated academic once each semester during the tenure of this scholarship to discuss their academic progression.
