1. Background
a. This Scholarship was established in 2013 to provide assistance to Aboriginal or Torres StraitÌýIslander students studying the Doctor of Medicine.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in first year in the Doctor of Medicine (MD)Ìýdegree at the University of Sydney.
b.Ìý Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined inÌýthe University of Sydney’sÌýÌý
c. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they are receiving a means-tested income supportÌýpayment from Centrelink (or another Commonwealth provider).
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic merit,Ìý
II. a personal statement on why you should be awarded the scholarship above yourÌýpeers.Ìý
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean of The University of SydneyÌýSchool of Medicine, or their nominated delegates.Ìý
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 per annum and is tenable for up to 4 years.Ìý
b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date ofÌýeach semester.Ìý
c. Deferral and Suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission ofÌýthe Head of School and Dean of The University of Sydney School of Medicine.
d. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university.Ìý
e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
f. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain satisfactory academicÌýperformance each semester.Ìý
b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required toÌýhave achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.Ìý
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. commences part-time study without prior approval from the Head of School Dean ofÌýSydney Medical School,Ìý
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,Ìý
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but notÌýlimited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their ScholarshipÌýapplication, or
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to UniversityÌýerror.Ìý
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminatedÌýunder any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the UniversityÌýreserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient beÌýreimbursed.Ìý
7. Reporting
a. The recipient will be expected to provide a personal update to the donor outlining theirÌýprogression in the Medical Program, by the end of November each year.
