1.聽聽聽聽聽 Background

a.聽 This Scholarship was established in 2016 to provide assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students studying medicine.

b.聽 This Scholarship has been donated by the Ghosh Family Foundation.

2.聽聽聽聽聽 Eligibility

1.聽 聽Applicants must be commencing and enrolled full-time in a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney.

2.聽 聽Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity.

3. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.

3.聽聽聽聽聽 Selection Criteria

a.聽 聽The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 I.聽 academic merit, and

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 II.聽 a personal statement.

b.聽聽聽聽聽 The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Medical School, or their nominated delegates.

4.聽聽聽聽聽 Value

a.聽聽聽聽聽 The Scholarship is valued at $6,000 per annum and is tenable for four years.

b.聽聽聽聽聽 The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c.聽聽聽聽聽 Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.

d.聽聽聽聽聽 The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e.聽聽聽聽聽 No other amount is payable.

5.聽聽聽聽聽 Ongoing eligibility

a.聽聽聽聽聽 To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain satisfactory academic performance and completion of each year of the program.

b.聽聽聽聽聽 Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

c.聽聽聽聽聽 Suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted.

6.聽聽聽聽聽 Termination

a.聽聽聽聽聽 The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 I.聽 withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 II.聽 commences part-time study without prior approval,

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b.聽聽聽聽聽 Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.聽聽

c.聽聽聽聽聽 Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7.聽聽聽聽聽 Other requirements

The recipient must provide a report to the donor outlining their progression in the Medical Program by the end of November each year.
