1. Background

a. This Scholarship is funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health to support Aboriginal聽and/or Torres Strait Islander students who have completed or will soon complete the聽Graduate Diploma of Indigenous Health Promotion, to achieve a Master of Public Health,聽Master of Global Health, or Master of Health Policy and Planning.

b. It is intended to cover the student contribution amount, for a student holding a聽Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and studying full-time for one year.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must have an unconditional offer for one of the below courses and enrol as a full-time student in the eligible degrees.

I. Master of Public Health, or

II. Master of Global Health, or

III. Master of Health Policy and Planning.

b. Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as per University of聽Sydney Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy 2015.

c. Applicants must have completed the Graduate Diploma of Indigenous Health Promotion or聽show evidence that they will complete this degree prior to the semester when they intend聽to commence an eligible degree outlined in clause 2.a.

d. Applicants must have obtained WAM of 65 or higher for the Graduate Diploma of聽Indigenous Health Program.

e. Applicants who are Fee-HELP deferred students are not eligible for this scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity,聽

II. academic merit,

III. application for admission,

IV. a cover letter outlining the why you should be awarded this scholarship, your work聽experience, your potential relative to opportunity, and your commitment to public聽health through study, practice, work or internship, and

V. a curriculum vitae.

b. Preference will be given to applicants awarded with a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP)聽for an eligible degree indicated in Clause 2.a.

c. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School of the Sydney School of Public聽Health, or their nominated delegate(s).聽

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is tenable for one year, the funds will be paid聽directly towards the student鈥檚 tuition fees.聽

b. If the student鈥檚 tuition fees are less than the scholarship value, the scholarship value will be聽equal to the student鈥檚 tuition fee.

c. Deferral or suspension of this Scholarship is not permitted.聽

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester聽Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to聽have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws, suspends or fails to enrol in their course,聽

II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance defined as not meeting聽progression requirements in the coursework policy,聽

III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not聽limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship聽application, or

IV. accepts an alternative tuition fee scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney,聽valued at $8,000 per annum or more for a full-time enrolled recipient or $4,000 per聽annum or more for a part-time enrolled recipient, for the same purpose as this聽Scholarship.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University聽error.聽

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated聽under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University聽reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be聽reimbursed.聽
