Sydney ranked in world's top 50 universities
The University has ranked among the top 50 universities globally every year since the were established in 2004.
鈥淩esearch and education excellence are part of the University of Sydney鈥檚 DNA. These results continue our strong standing as a world leader in research and education,鈥� said Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Michael Spence.
The rankings, produced by global higher education consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds, rank the world鈥檚 top 1000 universities.
With an overall score of 77.8, the University of Sydney ranked third nationally and 14th in the Asia-Pacific.
Six indicators are used to compile the ranking including:
- Academic reputation
- Employer reputation
- Citations per faculty
- Faculty/student ratio
- International faculty ratio
- International student ratio
For academic and employer reputation, Sydney scored 97.5 and 96.4 respectively.

Sydney maintained its position as 25th in the world for the academic reputation indicator, which holds the highest weight of QS ranking metrics.
Today鈥檚 rankings are the sixteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, in which Australia is the 6th-most-represented university location in the world.
