Early Career Researcher Residential Writing Retreat
Dedicating time and space to write productively and with enjoyment
Early career researchers working on Southeast Asia at the University of Sydney are invited to attend SSEAC鈥檚 inaugural residential writing retreat, designed to provide you with the physical and mental space to write as part of a community of like-minded scholars from a broad range of disciplines.
Who:听Early Career Researchers with interests in Southeast Asia at the University of Sydney or with a formal research-focused affiliation with the University of Sydney
When:听8:30-17:30, 5-7 February 2020
Where:听, Kirribilli, Sydney
For early career researchers, finding time to commit to writing can be difficult.听When faced with many competing obligations,听writing is often the first casualty.听In this听residential听writing retreat, we offer you the opportunity to go deep into your听writing听for three solid days, providing you with the time, space and support to write.
The retreat听program听鈥� which听includes听large blocks of听structured writing time听interspersed with听facilitated workshops,听informal discussions and debriefing听sessions 鈥撎齱ill provide听participants with:
- A chance to connect with early career researchers听from听across the听University听
- An opportunity听to reflect听on your own writing habits and听productivity听
- Deeper insights into鈥痺riting-related elements of academic life, including giving insightful and constructive feedback听
- The time and space to make meaningful progress on an academic output听(grant application, article or similar)听
Ten early career researchers can be accommodated听in residence.听Additional places may be made available for academics with caring responsibilities that preclude overnight stays.听
The selection process will听take disciplinary spread, country focus听and gender balance听into account. Please note that submission of an application听constitutes听a commitment to be available听from 8:30-5:30 each day听for the full听3 days of the听retreat听(on a residential or non-residential basis).听

Retreat information
In order to听be eligible to apply, you need to be:
- Employed at the University of Sydney as an academic or postdoctoral researcher听OR听have听a听formal听research-focused听affiliation听with the University;听
- Have been awarded your PhD in the last five years, adjusted for career interruptions as per the ARC rules
- Accommodation for two nights;
- Breakfast for two days;
- Lunch for three days;听
- Dinner for two days.

Successful applicants will be notified by听Friday听13听December 2019.听听
