Sandy Dawson, SC
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Mark Scott, said 鈥淚 was fortunate enough to get to know Sandy during my time at the ABC, where he was our 鈥榞o-to guy鈥 for advice on media law. Throughout his life, Sandy was an impeccable advocate and a force for good. He was one of our most distinguished alumni.鈥
A truly remarkable barrister, Sandy was also the older brother to Katrina Dawson, who was tragically killed in the Lindt Caf茅 siege, and was a Director of the Katrina Dawson Foundation.聽
Sandy was a leading silk in the area of defamation, and had a fierce intellect that was widely recognised across the community, with the NSW Bar Association President describing him as someone who was 鈥渂orn to be a barrister鈥.
For family, friends, and colleagues, this is a devastating loss. I know the legal and media communities are experiencing great sadness, and on behalf of the University, I鈥檇 like to offer my sincerest condolences to all those affected by Sandy鈥檚 passing. Vale.
Sandy completed a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University, and was admitted to the Bar in 2003 before being appointed a Senior Counsel in 2016.聽 聽
