The University of Sydney issued a statement this morning in response:
鈥淭he University is open and operating today.聽
鈥淲e fully support the right our staff have to strike and protest but we are disappointed the Union chose to聽prematurely聽pursue this unnecessary action.
鈥淭his action is聽pre-emptive -聽our discussions with the Union bargaining team are still underway. No final positions have been聽taken. We鈥檙e still聽working to reach agreement on聽a range of聽matters, some聽of which聽haven鈥檛 even been raised聽for full discussion yet.
鈥淭his strike won鈥檛 help us reach an agreement聽because聽we鈥檙e committed to good-faith negotiations at the bargaining table.聽We are offering significant improvements to existing conditions and we鈥檒l continue to engage transparently and keep our community updated.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been a difficult time for the higher education sector, and we still face an uncertain future.聽This strike will affect our students who just want to get on with their learning after the disruption of the last few years.
鈥淭he wellbeing of our staff and students is our highest priority. We want to make sure that we reach an Agreement that enhances our sector leading wages and condition and supports research and teaching excellence.鈥
