The short answer is no.

Although the details surrounding year 12 assessments are still being ironed out, you won鈥檛 be disadvantaged when applying for University.

鈥淭hese are truly unprecedented circumstances: it鈥檚 natural to feel uncertain when you can鈥檛 get all the concrete details," he says. "But education policy makers, schools and universities are paying close attention to the situation, as it develops, and are making sure year 12 students will be looked after.鈥�

With most year 12 students used to spending six hours a day at school, Eddie says maintaining a similar routine is important and six hours should be used as a rough guide while studying at home.

鈥淏ut," he鈥檚 quick to add, 鈥測ou should聽definitely聽not聽be staring at a screen for six hours, continuously, throughout the day... unless you want to make your eyes very sore and really mess with your ability to sleep at night!"

Break the day up and be sure to spend the time you would usually have at recess and lunch with family members. Everyone鈥檚 study routine will be different 鈥� and that鈥檚 a good thing 鈥� but, however you organise your day, it鈥檚 vital to have the right mindset.

"You could spend 6 or 7 or 8 hours a day 鈥渟tudying鈥�, but if it鈥檚 not focused and varied鈥� then not much learning is going to happen."

The key to effective group study is structure.

While students are unable to physically be in the same space, Eddie believes it鈥檚 important to make a realistic plan as a group 鈥� and stick to it.

鈥淵ou want to make sure the time you spend together doesn鈥檛 devolve into a random chat about whatever fun video you just watched.聽Have聽that random chat, but assign a specific time to it.鈥�

鈥淪chedule a half hour chat. Make it short and punchy, because if you have lots of time available, you鈥檒l fluff around and you won鈥檛 use it efficiently."

If you鈥檙e feeling uncertain about anything, the big tip is: reach out.

鈥淭he only dumb question is the one that isn鈥檛 asked鈥�, says Eddie. 鈥淲hile you don鈥檛 get to see your teachers in person right now, you can still fire off a question to them by email.鈥�

With thousands of other students studying under similar conditions, Eddie says peer groups are a valuable resource while studying remotely. He encourages those in the final year to phone a friend or jump online and join the dozens of active study groups on social media, where other HSC students can give you a hand with the concepts your learning.

It depends on what you're studying and what you want to do.

For maths specifically, Eddie recommends聽聽for graphing functions, and other sites like聽听补苍诲听聽which have 鈥渇antastic visual modules and interesting problems to explore a variety of concepts鈥�.

Great general go-to tools for getting organised include聽听补苍诲听聽鈥� allowing files to accessed and shared from anywhere on any device.
