Thirteen subjects among the top 50 globally

University ranks well across a range of disciplines
Thirteen subjects taught at the University of Sydney are among the top 50 globally, the 2018 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) reveal.

Transportation Science and Technology is the University鈥檚 top ranked subject in the 2018 ShanghaiRanking鈥檚聽聽(GRAS), coming in at number six.听

Veterinary Sciences, Nursing and Education were also ranked highly, at 21, 25 and 29 respectively.

The GRAS measures 54 subjects covering more than 4,000 universities around the world.

Other high-performing subjects include clinical medicine (32), political sciences (34), public health (37), agricultural sciences (38), human biological sciences (49) and communication (50). Three engineering disciplines at the University rank in the top 50: civil (38), metallurgical (39) and telecommunication (46).听

The rankings cement the University among the highest echelons, conducting world-class research and offering innovative degrees across a wide range of disciplines, said Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Laurent Rivory.

鈥淲hether it be medical sciences or social sciences the University is proud to be recognised for conducting some of the highest calibre research in the world.鈥

Among recent research published by University of Sydney academics are findings about the聽聽and the聽.听

The GRAS, formerly known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities, uses data on the citation impact, number of papers published in top journals, number of academic staff who have won awards, international collaboration on publications and total number of publication to determine the results.
