BIOTRONIK and the University of Sydney have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop digital and connected health solutions aimed at improving cardiac care

The collaboration brings together BIOTRONIK’s expertise in implanted cardiac devices and remote monitoring with the University’s research capabilities and the WARC: Westmead Applied Research Centre University of Sydney's experience in patient-facing digital health tools.

The initiative will focus on co-designing scalable solutions that address real-world clinical needs, particularly for patients in remote or underserved regions with limited access to care. Areas of development include remote patient monitoring, AI, and clinical decision support.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing patient-centered, value-based healthcare through innovation and evidence-based approaches.

WARC Researchers Awarded National Honour

±Ê°ù´Ç´Ú±ð²õ²õ´Ç°ùÌýÌýand the digital health team at the Westmead Applied Research Centre have been awarded the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance Translation Award at the 2026 Australian Cardiovascular AllianceÌýExcellence in Cardiovascular Research Awards.

The award recognises Professor Chow and the team’s outstanding leadership in translating high-quality cardiovascular research into meaningful, scalable improvements in prevention, clinical care, and population health – helping research deliver real-world impact for patients and communities.

  • Celebrating innovation and impact at the Western Sydney Showcase
    ±Ê°ù´Ç´Ú±ð²õ²õ´Ç°ùÌýÌýAM, Academic Director, Westmead Applied Research Centre, spoke about HeartHealth, a digital health innovation program designed to support patients in improving their heart health after being discharged. This program was developed by clinicians at Westmead Cardiology, delivering evidence-based advice via text messages. Thousands of patients have opted-in to the program and have seen a reduction in rehospitalisation, as well as received invaluable positive feedback from participants. They are currently expanding the program to further personalise the content and include language translation to reach more parts of the diverse Western Sydney community.
