Dean

Professor John Prins MBBS PhD FRACP FAHMS

Professor John Prins is an active clinician-researcher with ongoing research activity in drug development for metabolic liver disease and diabetes, including through a spin-out company. John delivers face-to-face and virtual care in high-risk pregnancy at Mt Isa and far north-west Queensland. He remains preoccupied with the challenges of improving health care delivery, including via research translation, and of training health practitioners for the future.

Professor Prins joined the Faculty of Medicine and Health as Dean of the faculty in September 2025. His previous roles include Executive Director, Health Translation Queensland; Chair of the Australian Health Research Alliance; Head of the University of Melbourne Medical School; and CEO of the Mater Hospital Group.
