Sydney Law School has launched the Sydney Law Student Engagement Unit to help students feel supported, connected, and ready to thrive in their academic journey.
Designed to foster a sense of belonging and community, the unit offers programs, workshops, and resources that support academic success and personal wellbeing.
From orientation through to graduation, students will have access to social activities, tailored career advice, industry events, and one-on-one guidance, ensuring every law student feels empowered and equipped to make the most of their university experience.
We sat down with Program Manager, Law Student Engagement and Success,听Eleanor Kempster, and Law Careers Program Director, Jessie Scriven, to chat about the newly formed unit and what students can look forward to.

Can you tell us about your role within the newly formed Sydney Law Student Engagement Unit?
I鈥檒l have a strong focus on orientation and the first-year experience, helping students transition into university life. I鈥檒l also work on enhancing our peer mentoring program and building partnerships with students. The student voice will be at the heart of what I do鈥攊t will shape our programs and initiatives.
What excites you the most about Sydney Law School?
What excites me most is that this is a brand-new team, and we鈥檙e all passionate about enhancing the student experience. We鈥檙e here to build, grow, and enrich student life, building on the strong foundation that already exists.

How does the Sydney Law Student Engagement Unit plan to collaborate with student societies, faculty, and other university services?听
We鈥檙e committed to working hand-in-hand with student societies, faculty, and university services through consultation and co-design. This collaborative approach ensures we deliver what students truly need. So look out for coffee chat invites, surveys, focus groups and more!
Can you tell us about your role within the unit?
My goal is to give you practical tools, industry insights, and tailored opportunities to help you thrive in your future career, whatever that may be. I鈥檓 currently designing a comprehensive career development program for 2026, which will respond to the unique and diverse needs of law students while equipping you for a rapidly evolving legal landscape.
