Sydney Law School is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Simon Rice, OAM as the Kim Santow Chair in Law and Social Justice.听
This title, which is not endowed, was approved by the University Senate in June 2009, and was previously been held by Professor Peter Cashman from 2009 鈥 17 February 2020.听Professor Rice鈥檚 appointment to the named Chair has been approved by the Provost and Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor.
Sydney Law School Dean, Professor Simon Bronitt, said the announcement follows the recent completion of Professor Rice鈥檚 tenure as Director of Professional and Community Engagement, a strategic position that had been centrally funded by a Research Compact Agreement for three years.听
鈥淪imon鈥檚 credentials in the space of social justice and law reform are outstanding. I am confident that our profile and commitment to scholarship, learning and teaching, and engagement in this field will continue to flourish,鈥 he said.
鈥淲ith this new title, Simon continues to lead our Law School Social Justice program and oversees our social justice clinics.

About the Kim Santow Chair in Law and Social Justice
The Kim Santow Chair in Social Justice was established in 2009, in honour of the late The Hon Kim Santow AO, a former judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales Court of Appeal, who held the position of Chancellor of the University of Sydney and Fellow of Senate from 2 October 2001 to 31 May 2007.
