Fungal infections are leading infectious causes of death worldwide 鈥� accounting for more deaths than either TB or malaria
This is especially true in tropical settings. Despite this, fungal research is often neglected, and fungal pathogens have generally been wrongly excluded from research and surveillance into antimicrobial resistance. Working together across time zones, and collaborating with agricultural and veterinary colleagues in Australia and Vietnam, Justin and Tra My have uncovered alarming rates of resistance in聽Aspergillus fumigatus聽鈥� posing a significant threat to people in Vietnam, and perhaps the region.
