We apply advanced engineering to agriculture and food production to boost efficiency and sustainability. ��帣��Ƭers leverage sensors, robotics and data analytics in precision farming to grow more with less, develop alternative proteins and innovative food processing techniques for more sustainable diets, and improve food supply chains through better management and technology to reduce waste.

Next-generation electronics and photonic systems encompasses research into the electronic and optical technologies that will drive future innovations in computing, communications and sensing. We are engineering devices at the frontier of what is possible – shrinking electronics to the nanoscale and harnessing light (photons) for information processing.

Biomedical devices and diagnostics

The biomedical devices and diagnostics theme drives the invention of cutting-edge tools that detect and treat health problems with greater precision and personalization. Our engineers (across biomedical, electrical, chemical, and mechanical disciplines) create everything from wearable sensors and lab-on-a-chip systems to advanced imaging equipment and therapeutic devices.

Biomechanics and bionics

The theme combines an understanding of the human body’s mechanics with innovative engineering to enhance and restore human capabilities. Biomechanics is the study of how forces interact with the body – our researchers analyse movement and physical stress on bones, muscles and joints to inform better designs for injury prevention and performance improvement.

Centre for IoT and Telecommunications

We are pioneering advanced, industry-supported wireless communications and networking research, focusing on new areas including 5G mobile, Internet of Things, signal processing for communication, advanced coding and quantum imaging.
