Sydney engineers named IEEE Fellows

University of Sydney professors from the Faculty of Engineering were among eight Australians to receive IEEE Fellowships this year.

Professor Sri Parameswaran补苍诲鈥笔谤辞蹿别蝉蝉辞谤鈥疭补濒补丑鈥疭耻办办补谤颈别丑听from the Faculty of Engineering have been appointed听as IEEE Fellows for 2023. This distinguished achievement is a testament to excellence in research and global impact.

Professor and Head of the School of听School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Professor Parameswaran is a world-renowned expert in computer engineering,听recognised for his development of fast, cost-effective programmable hardware systems used for cybersecurity, image processing, AI and DNA analysis.

His work has led to the development of commercial products, being adopted by multiple multinational corporations.听

鈥淚 am delighted to be named an IEEE Fellow and am humbled to join this prestigious cohort. As a Fellow, I am excited to continue pushing the boundaries of knowledge and technology in my field,鈥 Parameswaran said.

Professor of Robotics and Intelligent Systems and researcher at the听Australian Centre for Robotics.

Professor听Sukkarieh is internationally regarded for his research into robotics systems. His work has contributed听to navigation and control in autonomous systems including drones, mining vehicles and even鈥痭ew rovers for Mars exploration.

Sukkarieh is best known for his work in autonomous agricultural robotics, as well as the development of Qantas鈥檚 trans-Pacific flight planning system.鈥

鈥淚 am enormously proud to be announced as an IEEE Fellow. It听wouldn鈥檛听have been possible without the support of the University and Faculty of Engineering over many years. As an IEEE Fellow, I look forward to further contributing to the exciting and evolving field of robotics systems,鈥 听Sukkarieh said.

This honour is not only a reflection of my individual efforts but also of the collaborative spirit that defines our research community
