On hate and race politics

How is hate shaping society? And what must we do about it?
Political theorist and former Race Discrimination Commissioner Tim Soutphommasane reflects on race relations and multiculturalism in Australia and beyond, and what it means for democracy worldwide.

The speakers

is Professor of Practice (Sociology and Political Theory). He was Australia鈥檚 Race Discrimination Commissioner from 2013 to 2018. He is the author of five books about multiculturalism, national identity and race, including On Hate (Melbourne University Publishing).

Osman聽Faruqi聽is the Deputy Editor of ABC Life and a regular presenter on ABC鈥檚 arts and culture program, The Mix. He was a founding member of Member Diversity Australia and was formerly the 高清福利片 and Politics Editor at Junkee Media. He as reported for the ABC鈥檚 flagship investigative documentary program Background Briefing and has written for The Guardian, The Australian, SBS and Meanjin.
