Sydney academic recognised for highly-cited research over ten years

Professor Andreas Rauch from the University of Sydney Business School is the author of one of three social science research papers honoured in SAGE Publishing's inaugural 10-Year Impact Awards this year.

Published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice,听Professor Andreas Rauch's paper was one of the most cited between 2009 to 2019, with more than 1,000 citations over the decade.

" was the first to show that the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and performance is comparatively high," explained Professor Rauch from the Business School's Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

"Entrepreneurial orientation refers to the policies and practices that are the basis for strategy-making. Before our paper was published, this was a large unknown for the entrepreneurial community."

The paper stimulated a huge amount of subsequent research on the entrepreneurial orientation concept, which was very exciting.

Entrepreneurial orientation captures an organisation's strategic decision-making practices, managerial vision and business behaviours that are innovative,听proactive and involving risk-taking.

Dean of the Business School, Professor听Greg Whitwell, said, "This recognition is testament to the outstanding research scholarship for which the Business School is known. We are very proud of Andreas' significant achievement."

Professor听Susan Thorp, Associate Dean of Research at the Business School, added, "This award is proof of the lasting influence of Andreas' work on entrepreneurial orientation, and highlights its current relevance.听Post-pandemiceconomic recoverydepends entirely on effective strategy-making in business."

The paper,听, was also authored by Professors Johan Wiklund, G T Lumpkin and Michael Frese.

The awards considered citation data for all articles published in 2009. That year, SAGE published more than 40,000 articles across a wide range of disciplines, with more than 75 percent from social and behavioural science.
