Applications for the 2018 David Harold Tribe Poetry Award are now open

Offering a cash prize of $12,000 for best original poem
The award provides poets with funds that might enable them to further their education in the field of poetry, to continue to refine their work as poets, and to improve the general public's appreciation of Australian poetry.

The Department of English is pleased to announce that theÌýawardÌýunder the David Harold Tribe Poetry Bequest will be made in 2018.Ìý

ThisÌýaward has been made possible by aÌýgenerous gift to the university by , author and humanist, to promote the writing of poetry inÌýAustralia.Ìý

The bequest offers aÌýcash prize of $12,000Ìýfor theÌýbest original poem of up to 100ÌýlinesÌýsubmitted to the Department of English, provided that the judging panelÌýis of the opinion that the work is of sufficientÌýmerit to warrant the awardÌýbeing made.ÌýThe winning poem will beÌýpublished inÌý.

TheÌýjudges for this year's award are eminent poets Kate Lilley, Pam Brown and Keri Glastonbury.

Entry requirements

  • An original, previously unpublished poemÌý
  • Up to 100 lines
  • Completed not earlier than three years before the closing dateÌý
  • Entrants must Australia residents for a minimum of four years
  • Only one entry per poet will be accepted
  • Entry is free
  • PreviouslyÌýpublished or prize-winning poems will not be accepted
  • EntriesÌýmust not be under consideration for publicationÌý
  • The poetÌýmust present the entry under his/her own name (not under a pseudonym)
  • Only electronic submissions via Ìýwill be acceptedÌý
