Affiliates include the following groups of people who support the University community on one of our campuses:

• Honorary title holders (includes honorary, visiting, adjunct, clinical, conjoint  titles and emeritus professors)
• Research affiliates (contributors to a research output but do not hold an honorary title)
• Consultants and contractors to the University
• Holders of offices in University entities
• Members of boards of University foundations
• Members of University committees
• Volunteers
• Any other persons appointed or engaged by the University to perform duties or functions on its behalf

International Visitors/Affiliates

You are an international Visitor/Affiliate if you are:

• A foreign national on an Australian temporary visa or if you are based overseas and;
• hold an Honorary title or a Research Affiliate title.

To become an affiliate at the University of Sydney, you will need to:

• Contact the faculty or school you wish to be affiliated with to find a host for your visit.
• Your host will liaise with the University’s HR Transactional and Client Services (TCS) team to initiate your appointment process.
• You will receive an official invitation letter and visa instructions (if applicable) from the HR Transactional and Client Services (TCS) team.

Estimated Timeframe

The lead time required for the overall affiliation appointment process can take up to six months.Ìý However, this timeframe may extend to nine months in certain cases.
