2020 unit information
This semester, students will learn about the world of French and Francophone literature and the arts and develop an understanding of some key cultural references. They will read and discuss a variety of short literary texts and in doing so, develop their vocabulary range and consolidate their knowledge of grammatical tenses. Essay-writing skills will be consolidated and students will work in teams on small projects to be presented to the class.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. demonstrate a level of written and oral competence in French to at least CEFR level B1+ or above, including the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively on a range of familiar topics and in a range of genres
- LO2. articulate an understanding of various aspects of French and Francophone culture (class; identity; multiculturalism)
- LO3. apply a variety of grammatical rules to support effective communication (pr茅positions; adverbes; conjonctions; pronoms relatifs)
- LO4. analyse an extended literary text (context; themes; characterisation; structure; style)
- LO5. evaluate existing research on aspects of French and Francophone and culture related to the literary text studied
- LO6. analyse contemporary audio-visual texts delivered in standard language (TV news, audio recording, film).
