In the 1980’s, when I first began working, architectural photography was linked to magazines. The idea was to renew the historical culture of Architecture. For that photography was to take the public on architectural promenades, as developed by Le Corbusier. Was it photography? What was at stake here was the independence of the photographer.
Architecture is the creation of places that people inhabit, rather than the design of signature objects. This is particularly true for housing. The challenge for the architectural photographer then, is to show the occupancy of space.
The main question, therefore, is architectural photography an art?

Born in 1949, Philippe started work as a photographer in 1985. Â
